About GPPA

Guajome Park Primary Academy

Academics

GPPA provides multiple opportunities for students to participate in a rigorous, relevant, and coherent standards-based curriculum.

We provide opportunities for students to participate in challenging learning experiences in and outside of the classroom.

GPPA's academics include multi-tiered programs for grades K-5 as we strive to offer educational programs which are flexible, demanding, and appropriate.

Our focus is on the development of the whole child as an inquirer both in school and in the larger world around them. Interdisciplinary units are taught throughout the subject areas (languages, social studies, mathematics, science and technology, the arts, and personal, social, and physical education). Thematic, inquiry based units of instruction, focus on structured questioning methods that promote higher-level questioning and international mindedness that encourage and enhance the child's natural curiosity.

The GPPA Elementary School Program includes curriculum based on the California Content Standards in social studies, science, art and physical education and the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and mathematics which address the academic expectations for California elementary school students; and also provides a rich and rigorous global exposure including but not limited to: language and cultural awareness, art and music.

Additionally, technology grade level benchmarks are integrated into the curriculum and teaching practice, exposing students to 21st century instructional tools and learning outcomes.

Our K - 5 program embraces the philosophies of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) curriculum framework for exploration and study. The IBPYP includes the following six trans-disciplinary themes:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

The goal of GPPA is to educate all members to strive to achieve the qualities of the School-wide Learning Outcomes ("SLOs"). Defining our SLO's is an on-going process that is annually reviewed. Currently, GPPA's SLOs are:

  1. Effective Communicators
  2. Responsible Citizens
  3. Self-directed Learners
  4. Critical Thinkers

GPPA is a school designed to provide choice and to meet the needs of a variety of learners, with curriculum that provides personal achievement and is challenging for students.
